John D. Bell

Senior Landscape Architect

BLA, OALA, CSLA 


John is our Senior Landscape Architect and is the founder of JDB Associates Limited with over 30 years of experience in both the public and private sector. He obtained his BLA from the University of Guelph in 1983 and has been providing clients with solutions to their landscaping needs ever since. 


A full member of both the OALA and CSLA, John at one point acted as both a landscape consultant and ran a design/build company but has since put away his tools. His extensive experience in the field of landscape architecture has provided John with a diverse set of skills that allows him to provide clients with sensible and well thought out landscape designs.

Norman Blais

Construction Administrator, Certified Arborist, Landscape Architect

OALA, ISA, BHA


Norman is our Construction Administrator and has been a member of the JDB team for over 20 years. He graduated from Ryerson in 1985 with a diploma in Landscape Architectural Technology and in 2007 became an ISA Certified Arborist. 


A full member of the OALA, Norman is often on site making sure that landscape installations are being done correctly and is involved in certification inspections with municipalities. As a Certified Arborist and Butternut Health Assessor he is an integral part of the tree identification and preservation process by writing arborist reports and ensuring vegetation is sufficiently protected before construction. Norman is also responsible for setting up tenders and other contract administration items for JDB.

Stefan Taina

Senior Landscape Designer, Project Manager

Ph.D Veg., BHA


Stefan is our Senior Landscape Designer and Project Manager and has been part of the JDB team for the last 15 years. Stefan earned his Ph.D. in Vegetation Science while still in his home country of Romania and obtained a Landscape Design diploma upon settling with his family in Canada.


Using his extensive knowledge of plants, Stefan is actively involved in the inventory and analysis of vegetation communities and excels in executing a well thought out planting design. He is also a Butternut Health Assessor and is designated in identifying and assessing butternut trees, which are an endangered species and protected under Ontario’s Endangered Species Act.

Marc Cote

Junior Landscape Architect

BLA, OALA Associate


Marc is our Junior Landscape Architect and obtained his BLA from the University of Guelph in 2018, joining the JDB team soon after. 


Marc is currently working towards his full membership with the OALA and is involved in assisting colleagues in all aspects of the landscape architectural process. Before joining JDB he worked in landscape construction which has given him the practical experience in understanding the limitations of products and how to properly design/build various landscape elements.
